Although not recommended, special arrangements can be made to attend the skills evaluation for another division if absolutely necessary.

Attendance at the evaluations is mandatory to be selected for all-stars unless special circumstances apply. Special circumstances must be given IN WRITING (email okay) to Michelle Pahl at cvlkco@aol.com

A new selection process is being established this year involving a skills evaluation AND a panel selection process.  You can see the details of the all-star selection process at the CSA Web Site at www.carlsbadsoftball.com

Current managers and coaches are eligible to be a part of the all-star player selection process by being an all-star panel member.  If you are interested in being considered to help select our all-star teams contact Jeff Schneider at josdc@email.uophx.edu

All-Star Manager and Coaching Applications being accepted NOW!

If you are interested in managing or coaching a CSA all-star team for 2006 you must complete a coaching application prior to April 25th.

CSA all-star managers must be ASA certified (must have attended one of the ASA coaching clinics in the past), however all-star coaches do not.  If you are not sure whether your daughter will make all-stars or not it is suggested that you put in an application just in case.

If you are interested in being an all-star manager or coach, contact Cristi Johnston at csaplayersagent@sbcglobal.net

ALL-STAR FAQs

How many all-star teams will we have this year?

We are shooting for TWO teams in 8U, 10U and 12U this all-star season.  That will give more opportunities to more girls to play and enjoy all-stars!  Encourage your daughter to attend the skills evaluation for the opportunity to be a 2006 all-star.

What determines the number of teams?

The CSA Board bases this decision on the overall talent level of the league, abundance (or lack thereof) of pitching, and whether we have adequate qualified persons submitting applications to manage the teams.

What is the selection process?

Check out the CSA web site at www.carlsbadsoftball.com for the 2006 All-Star Selection Procedures.

Can my daughter miss some practices or games and still play all-stars?

See the discussion of commitment below.  While discouraged, missing a practice or game during all-stars is bound to happen on occasion.  This is dealt with on an individual basis by the manager of each team.

My daughter will miss a tournament due to summer camp, can she still be selected for the team?  It is possible, but would be decision that is left up to each individual manager at the beginning of the all-star period.

All-Star Commitment and General Info

If you've not been involved in all-stars then this is a MUST read before considering whether you want your child to participate.

All-stars are much, much different than the recreational season.  There is a much higher level of commitment and competition.

o       All-stars will run from early-mid May to late June.

o       You will practice about 3 days per week (this may vary by coach and by age group) with practices generally about 2 hours each.  An occasional practice may be more than 2 hours.

o       Our teams will travel to 4-5 tournaments.  Four of those tournaments will generally be local. One tournament may require overnight lodging.

o       Playing time may be affected for those players that miss practice.

o       All-star games are played to win, which means there is no guarantee that every player will play.  In fact, certain players may play very little or not at all.  These are manager's decisions and will be supported 100% by the board.

o       While the league picks up most of the costs for all-star tournaments there is still a fee for each player, usually in the neighborhood of $175.

Now that I've discussed commitment, let me discuss the benefits of playing all-stars:

o       The opportunity for your child to experience competitive play.  Playing on a competitive team where everyone can catch, throw and hit is a fun experience.  Advanced softball strategy will be instructed.

o       The opportunity for your child to practice, practice and practice in a competitive setting.  If you want your child's skills to improve, this will do it.  Even if your child doesn't play in games, the practice will be of great benefit.

o       Team camaraderie will be emphasized.  Playing on a team is a good teacher of life skills.

o       The fun of travel. It is fun to watch 40 girls from CSA splashing around in the hotel pool after all the games are done.

o       Your daughter will be supplied with all-star goodies.  These goodies will vary each year but may include an all-star helmet, gear bag, sweats, sliders, etc.

o       Can't forget the really cool uniforms that say Carlsbad All-Stars across the front.  It is special recognition that builds confidence and self esteem.

USAopoly, Inc.

USAOPOLY began in 1994 with a great idea for a hometown spin on the classic MONOPOLY® game. After securing permission from Hasbro to license the world famous property trading game from Parker Brothers®, the San Diego edition of the MONOPOLY game was born, and so was USAOPOLY, Inc. We started with cities, colleges and popular themes like NASCAR®, COCA-COLA® and The Simpsons(tm). Over 100 different specialty editions later, USAOPOLY started putting spins on other timeless games we all know and love to play like Chess, Checkers, Tic Tac Toe, Dominoes, Backgammon, Bingo, Cribbage, Poker and Bunco. For over 10 years now, friends and families have been able to rediscover their favorite board games... with a fun, unique USAOPOLY twist.
