Casino Night Recap

For those of you in attendance I don't need to say anything more about Casino Night.  It was truly a great evening with a little bit of something for everyone.

If you didn't go, I'm sure you will hear about it from someone...and don't miss it when it rolls around again next year!

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be redirected into the league to help benefit our girls.

SPECIAL ALL-STAR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Potential All-Star Managers

The league is now accepting applications from those persons interested in being an all-star manager or coach.  If interested, email Cristi Johnston at  csaplayersagent@sbcglobal.net.

All-Star Committee Volunteers needed

Want to be a part of all-star selection?  CSA is looking for all-star committee volunteers.  These volunteers will be asked to view different teams play and give opinions regarding the selection of all-star players.

The all-star committee will act in conjunction with the all-star evaluations, CSA board, and all-star managers to select an all-star team that has the best chance of being competitive in championship (all-star) play.

If you are interested in being a member of the all-star committee contact Cristi Johnston at cristij@csa.playersagent.net

Anyone who doesn't get involved in all-star selection NOW, has no basis to complain LATER!

All-Star Tryouts

CSA will be having open evaluations for all-stars at every level this year.  The first evaluation will be held on Sunday, April 10th, and the second on Sunday April 24th.

The girls will be evaluated by an independent panel of persons selected by the board.  The panel will make recommendations and the board will select 9 players for each team.  The manager of each team will have the liberty of selecting the 3 remaining players.  Alternates will be selected at each level.

All Star Commitment

If you've not been involved in all-stars then this is a MUST read before considering whether you want your child to participate.

All-stars are much, much different than the recreational season.  There is a much higher level of commitment and competition.

o       All-stars will run from early-mid May to late June.

o       You will practice about 3 days per week (this may vary by coach and by age group) with practices generally about 2 hours each.  An occasional practice may be more than 2 hours.

o       Our teams will travel to at least 3 tournaments.  Two of those tournaments will generally be local. One tournament may require overnight lodging.

o       Playing time may be affected for those players that miss practice.

o       All-star games are played to win, which means there is no guarantee that every player will play.  In fact, certain players may play very little or not at all.  These are manager's decisions and will be supported 100% by the board.

o       While the league picks up most of the costs for all-star tournaments there is still a fee for each player, usually in the neighborhood of $150.

Now that I've discussed commitment, let me discuss the benefits of playing all-stars:

o       The opportunity for your child to experience competitive play.  Playing on a competitive team where everyone can catch, throw and hit is a fun experience.  Advanced softball strategy will be instructed.

o       The opportunity for your child to practice, practice and practice in a competitive setting.  If you want your child's skills to improve, this will do it.  Even if your child doesn't play in games, the practice will be of great benefit.

o       Team camaraderie will be emphasized.  Playing on a team is a good teacher of life skills.

o       The fun of travel. It is fun to watch 40 girls from CSA splashing around in the hotel pool after all the games are done.

o       Can't forget the really cool uniforms that say Carlsbad All-Stars across the front.  It is special recognition that builds confidence and self esteem.

Pay to Play

This annual fundraising event is scheduled for Saturday April 2nd.  It consists of parents from the league forming Co-Ed teams and playing a one day slow-pitch single elimination tournament.  Softball skills are not required to play in these fun games.

Cost is $10 per person and lunch will be provided.  Contact your coach and see if there is a team being formed.  Sometimes the parents of two league teams may combine to form a team.  Or, if you are a solo player without a team talk to other managers or coaches to see if they have room on their roster.   There are always roster spots available.

No outside "ringers" please!

Lost and Found:

An equipment back was lost last Saturday by the Field 2 dugout.  Please contact me if you picked it up.
